The day

Pottery clay, kava, a meke, and the long empty sand of Natadola.

The Coral Coast is where the reef comes close to the road and the villages sit just behind it. This day is built around people rather than viewpoints.

You visit Lawai, where pottery is still shaped and fired the way it has been for generations, sit for a kava ceremony, and watch a meke performed by the community that owns it. Between visits you cruise along Sigatoka Valley Road — Fiji's salad bowl — to the river town, where there is time to walk the market, shop around town and have lunch.

The day finishes at Natadola, a wide beach with real surf and almost no development, which is the right way to end it. Swim, or try one of the massages or a horse ride on the sand — those are at your own expense.

Best for
Couples and families who want the cultural day rather than the resort day.
Pace
Steady. Village visits, short walks, a beach stop.

Questions

Before you book

Do we have to drink the kava?

No. Accepting the bowl is polite but a small cup or a respectful decline is completely fine.

What should we wear in the village?

Shoulders covered, knees covered, and hats removed once you are inside the village.

Is Natadola safe for swimming?

It is a surf beach with a shore break. Your guide will point out where it is calmest on the day.

Where do we have lunch?

In Sigatoka town, during the market stop. You choose where and pay for it yourself — lunch is not included in the tour price.

Can we have a massage or a horse ride at Natadola?

Yes. Both are offered on the beach and both are at your own expense, paid directly to the operators. Tell your guide and they will point you to them.
